Grace Jones. Tarsem. Bjork. Cirque du Soleil. She is responsible for most everything simultaneously hauntingly carnal/alien yet delicately exquisite in my visual memory. Although mostly known as a costume designer, she was also a music video director and revolutionary graphic designer in Japan back when it was a strictly male-dominated profession.
She is Eiko Ishioka and she quietly died last week.
Here is a very small tribute to this Japanese multidisciplinary art director.
